I Had a Busy Summer - How I’m Doing Now!

The summer of 2022 was a wild ride for me. It started with being sick for 8 straight weeks, with 2 hospital visits in the mix. After that, I was busy going on mini vacations with my friend, going to the Toronto City Fair 3 times, and then having my best friend come to visit me for 5 days.

Let me tell you in detail about all of this!

8 weeks of sickness

I’ve mentioned it in a previous article, but I had 8 weeks of chronic digestive issues to start off my summer. I visited the ER twice, once with no outcome, the second time a little more hopeful. I spent Canada Day in the ER, a new way to celebrate the country, I guess.

A few weeks after that, I got a colonoscopy to see what was going on. Initially, it looked like nothing, but with the biopsy, I was diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis. I’ll talk more about that in another post, though.

To start off my summer (this all started at the end of May), this wasn’t the fun in the sun I expected to have. It took the life out of me for those 8 weeks. I had multiple breakdowns, trouble sleeping, and generally a very hard time.

Thankfully a doctor told me I could begin taking Imodium, which I did, and my summer was able to continue as I’d hoped it would.

Fun in the sun!

After the 8 terrible weeks were over, my friend decided we should go somewhere for a weekend. We chose a beach town about 2 hours away from us, and away we went!

It was so much fun! Exhausting, but so worth it. I deserved a nice little vacation after the hell I went through with my body to kick off summer.

We spent time on the beach, ate at a few restaurants, went shopping, and talked our heads off. I needed to recover for a few days after we got back, but it was so worth it.

City fair and my friend visiting

I wrote about the fair in my wheelchair post, so I won’t talk about it too in-depth, but every year the city of Toronto holds a fair called the CNE. I went 3 times this year! Luckily I was in my wheelchair because I wouldn’t have been able to walk that much in one day.

My friend came to visit from another province while the fair was on! I was so excited as I’d never met her before. She stayed with our family for 5 days and I had a blast! We went to the fair, went out to eat, and in between we just hung out at home and in my room.

My friend understands that I need lots of downtime and time spent at home, so we did just that! We had amazing conversations, went on a few walks, and just hung out. It was my favorite part of the summer for sure.

The aftermath

After all of this has happened, obviously, I’ve been exhausted. I needed a while to rest and recover from all of this, but now that September is ending, I’m starting to feel better and less fatigued than I originally was.

The start to my summer sucked, to put it honestly, but the middle and end were perfect. Everything I needed to keep me busy and keep my spirits up!
