My First Trip to the Hair Salon With AxSpa

I’ve never dyed my hair or done anything adventurous with it. So, I rarely go to the hairdressers. Before Covid I might go every 4-6 months to get a trim.

The last time I cut my hair was December 2019. So, as you can imagine it has gotten really long, which I love but it’s hard to manage. It’s also not in the best condition.

So, it’s hair cut time!

Something I would never have given a second thought to, but I feel nervous going to the hairdressers. I will have to sit for a long period of time, put my head into a sink, I can feel the neck pain and the stiffness just thinking about it.

But I decided it’s time to treat myself to a haircut. Usually, this would be a self-care, relaxing thing to do. Now it has become something that could ended up hurting me more!

The waiting game

My appointment started with a long wait. Sitting on a small hard chair with no back support. I couldn’t lean my head or neck on anything, so the neck pains began! My shoulder began to spasm all the way up my neck, causing me to sweat from the pain. But, I wanted my hair cut so I stuck it out. It won’t take long, I thought.

Never would I ever have thought that getting my hair done would go from a luxurious experience to one I would dread.

After 45 minutes of waiting on this uncomfortable chair, my name was called. Finally! I thought.

Luckily, the chair I sat in to get my hair cut was more comfortable. The hairdresser began brushing my hair and I thought this was going to be ok, no reason to be nervous!

Ouch! My neck!

Next, it was time to get my hair washed. Normally I love this, it’s so relaxing getting my head massaged while being washed. It was lovely but after about 2 minutes my neck was in agony and started to spasm again. I took a deep breath to try and relax but this made it worse. I thought, this would be ok, it won’t take long.

And, it didn’t take long but ouch! My neck!

After that, it was time to cut my hair. Overall, my appointment took about an hour, not including the 45 minute wait. My back and neck were in agonizing pain. I hobbled out of the chair, I was so stiff. The woman asked, "Are you ok?" I wasn’t going to get into detail with her, so I said "Yeah, just a bad back!" "Wow you're very young," she said, and I just nodded, smiled and went up to pay!

You learn something new every day

As soon as I got home, I hopped into bed with my hot water bottles and heated wheat bag for around my neck!

I’m a bit sorer than usual but I’ve got a new hair do!

Each day is a new lesson for me. I learn more about my body and more about my pains. I never thought that going to the hairdressers might be a bit of an ordeal, but at least I know now!

Does anyone else have a simple problem like this?
