I Took a Reset Trip
Before I get into the details of my trip, I just want to say I went on this reset trip back in November, when the virus wasn’t spreading as bad and I was extra careful with everything I did.
Where we went
So as I said, I went on a reset trip back in November. That seems like a lifetime ago now. I went with a friend about an hour and a half west of the city. Life had become extremely stressful for me around November and I needed a little break. We planned a weekend away.
I had found an old church listed on Airbnb and knew that it was the place for me to be. It was built in 1887 and was active until 1987. It was a small church, and I’ll admit, arriving there at 10 pm was terrifying. I ended up crying (something that is so me) and wanted to go home, but ultimately we stayed the course of the weekend and enjoyed every second of it.
Why I needed a getaway
Obviously, we all want and need a getaway trip right now. We’ve needed one since March 2020 and we all deserve that reset trip.
I started Humira in April 2020 and was on it for a total of 6 months at the time of my trip. Humira hadn’t helped me at all over the course of those 6 months. My pain was worse and my fatigue was at the worst levels I’d ever experienced (and it’s only gotten worse).
I had struggled a few months before with my doctors being extremely hard to reach. As we all know, this is extremely stressful and it weighs on your mental health. I struggled with the idea of my doctors no longer wanting to help me, and tried to decide if switching doctors would be the best course of option. Ultimately I didn’t switch family doctors or rheumatologists because I decided the process was too long and stressful at the time.
With everything in my life revolving around my health, I wanted a getaway to be able to focus more on me, and not the stress of the world mixed with my health and healthcare team.
How my reset trip went
As mentioned, I stayed the course of the weekend and had a great time. I woke up early on Saturday morning and sat in front of the stained glass window, working on my writing and listening to music. It was the most peaceful I’d felt in years and it was exactly what my mind and body needed.
The church was in a very small town in Ontario. That afternoon we went and explored the main street (with masks on) and found cute little shops and restaurants. If there’s one thing I love about Ontario, it’s the small towns you come across while going in any direction away from the city.
My little reset trip was exactly what I needed at the time to clear my body and my mind from what was going on in my life. I would highly recommend it, you don’t have to go far to have a good time! But please make sure to be safe and follow your province/state guidelines when doing so. We weren’t under lockdown when this trip happened.
