New to AS

Diagnosed with AS in March of this year started the injection of adalimumab every two weeks having some horrible side effects for a couple of days after injection any one else on this treatment and if so what are the side effects ?

Hi <inline-mention username="Debbie" user-id="4160720"/>, being newly diagnosed is tough. But I promise things will start looking up soon. Adalimumab is a biologic right? How long have you been on it for? Sometimes it takes a while for your body to adjust and get used to a new medication in your body. Sometimes it also takes a few trial and errors with biologics. I was on Cimzia first, I was on it for 3 months and had terrible side effects. I then switched to Cosentyx, I've been on that for a year now and I have no side effects except for being a bit more tired the next day. What side effects are you having? Have you told your rheumatologist about these side effects? Hope your doing ok! Ali (Community Member)

Hi <inline-mention username="Debbie" user-id="4160720"/> Sorry to hear about the recent diagnosis and the side affects that you have been experiencing. I will say that usually the start of the journey with the AS is usually the worst part. With all the getting used to medication and learning how to manage it, so things will start looking up soon! What side effects are you experiencing? I have never personally tried this kind of medication but if there are any similar side effects to what I have had I will be happy to try and give some advice on them! Hi <inline-mention username="Debbie" user-id="4160720"/> so sorry to hear you have only recently been diagnosed. I hope you find this site brings you some support and comfort when you need it. I was on Adalimibub a few years ago. I have to say I did okay on it but unfortunately, I had cellulitis while on it and wound up in hospital for a month. I can't honestly say severity of the cellulitis was the fault of the drug, but I'm not convinced it didn't play its part. I believe each drug/injection reduces our immunity to one degree or another - and probably in different ways. But since going back on Enbrel I have been okay. Is it possible for you to ask to try something that suits you better? Best of luck. Steve - Community Advocate
