Nicky Flikas

Axial Spondyloarthritis Community Advocate Nicky FlikasHello! My name is Nicky, I am 34 years old married with 3 beautiful children. I am from the city of Montreal born and raised.

It's been a long journey to diagnosis. I received my diagnosis in February 2020, after being dismissed from several doctors that it was just depression and anxiety. I was finally believed that there was more than just my depression and anxiety going on with my body.

I have always suffered from being extremely tired and I would need several days to recuperate. I thought it was normal. My pains and symptoms started slowly and over time got worse. I was working as a medical secretary, at the hospital full-time position, where I had to go on sick leave because I ended up bedridden in bed for several months.

In the meantime, I started a page on Instagram sharing my story on weight loss, which then became all about my journey about chronic illness. My page started growing and I started to meet a whole new community of spoonies that suffered in the same way that I did. I started to share my everyday reality about my disease on @nickyschronicjourney. It has helped me find a way to cope.

My passion is helping others not feel alone. I know how this disease can impact your life in many ways, that can make you feel alone. I will be sharing more about my diagnosis, my illness, and everything else that comes along with it. I am looking forward to sharing our journeys together.
