Awaiting diagnosis, if caught early enough can I stop the spine fusing

Hi everyone.

Just awaiting some scans to confirm/ rule out AS.

rheumatologist has said she reckons spondyloarthritis but can't rule out AS AS I tested positive for hla-b27.

I don't really have much pain in my back, more my feet to be honest. My biggest worry and what keeps me awake at night is my back fusing if I do have AS, I'm sure everyone else has the exact same thoughts. I guess I'm lucky in a way that I have my hla-b27 diagnosis from years ago whist trying to determine why I had inflammation of the iris, and therefore ant AS diagnosis could be a matter of months rather than years in some cases.

With the right medication and exercises can you stop the fusing from happening if caught early enough.

Really does keep me up most nights, it's all I think about and makes me feel sick with the thought.

  1. Hi.
Nope they are calling it spondyloarthropathry at the mo. I had my mri on Friday and seeing the rheumatologist on Monday so will see what they say. My back hasn't been to bad, it's mainly my right ankle and achilles at the mo
