Getting the correct diagnosis

I'm interested on hearing your stories. How many of you were misdiagnosed prior to your A S diagnosis?

  1. Bilateral Sacriilitis

    1. Pulled muscles

      1. It’s crazy how easily AS can be mistaken for something like pulled muscles. How did you eventually get the correct diagnosis? -Latoya (Team Member)

    2. Originally diagnosed as RA in 1962, then AS, then PsA now (without ANY testing).

      1. That’s a lot to go through with all those changing diagnoses. How did the PsA come about without any testing? -Latoya (Team Member)

    3. This is a great topic to explore. I'm sorry more haven't responded. I wasn't misdiagnosed, just went from one diagnosis to the next. For example - for many years told nothing was wrong - it was all in my head. Went through so many tests and diagnostics such as for MS, NMO, and Lyme disease. In my 40s, I was told I had rheumatoid arthritis, then said no I had non-radiographic AxSpA, then radiographic, then peripheral to now ankylosing spondylitis with both spine and limb involvement. It has been a long journey. Misdiagnosis occurs because many symptoms are similar to other diseases. And there is no one specific symptom that stands out to point in the direction of inflammatory arthritis. It can be mistaken for example as mechanical back pain. I will check back to see what others post. Wishing you the best in the New Year. Rebecca (team member)
