Beta Blocker and mood disorder

When I found that AS had blocked all my arteries to such an extent, I had no choice but to take a Beta Blocker or Calcium Channel Blocker; for only those can slow and relax the heart enough to provide enough blood from the collateral circulation (the tiny ones that grow around the arteries).

The consequences from the condition of my arteries is tied in with my kidneys, putting me in Stage 3 CKD -- not all that bad considering.

But people don't often mention how horrible the side effects of beta blockers and calcium channel blockers can be. I am constantly on edge, and stressed out, and even angry! It began with the very first beta blocker, and continues after experimenting with several!

Has anyone struggled with heart disease via AS? My spine is already a train wreck, along with enthesitis in my achilles, heel bones, bottom of my feet, both knees and elbows. I haven't been able to stand up straight or walk well, and yet the most difficult problem is still the issues of side effects the drugs cause!

It scares me so much lately for I feel like I am completely losing control of myself! Sorry everyone, but I really needed to vent a bit!

Please share any experiences with drugs you must stay on and how it is as bad as the condition it is treating! Thank you!

  1. I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I know that as you battle pain and spinal discomfort having these increasing issues must be intolerable.

I have AS and heart issues and take Beta-Blockers. However, my heart disease is the result of AS; rather, it is caused by diabetes. However, my experience has been different. I had reasonable outcomes from using Beta-Blockers.

I have found that my cardiologist has worked hard to calibrate medications to lessen these awful side effects. I hope you will reach out once again to your cardiologist to see if they might be able to think of other ideas.

I wish you the very best. I hope you find a solution. Would you please let us know how things are going?
