Chest and rib fusing?

I notice soreness in my ribcage and some restriction in expansion when I breathe deep. Is it a symptom of AS or am I just getting old? Any serious concerns?

  1. I have had this for a couple of years. Leaning back on something hard, forceful sneezing, and even coughing hurts my ribs where they connect to my spine, the sides of my ribs and my sternum. It is better some times but never has gone away except when I had a trial of prednisone.

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience. It is so difficult to live with pain that won't completely go away. How do you cope day-to-day? One of our health leaders wrote about hher experiences in this article. All the best, Kathy (Team member)

  2. I also get this in my sternum the middle of my chest but only in the last couple of years it came about . I had never had it before but when I mentioned it to my physio she said that it’s possible to get inflammation in this area and ribs and my sister gets this symptom in her ribs a lot . I think it started for me not long after starting my job as a Health care Assistant , moving patients up the bed that kind of motion set off my pain .
Could be worth mentioning it to your Rheumatologist or doctor . Hope it settles for you soon .
    Blessings .

    1. I get this often on my back ribs and chest. I think it can be symptoms of AS. I would always maybe mention to your doctor and see what he says about it. What i find helps is warm compress or heating pads help me.

      Hope you feel better soon,
