I’m having a Lumbar radio frequency Nerve Ablation

I had this procedure done a little over a year ago, and it burns the nerves so they stop sending pain signals to my brain. It lasts from 9-12 months and really does stop a lot of pain. This will be the 4th time I’ve done this so I a Veteran. Lol
First they knock you out with anesthesia for the procedure that takes about 15-20 minutes. They use a giant X-RAY Machine that you lie face down on. Dr can see your spine and inserts a long needle to numb the nerves- he does 4-5 on one side that hurts the most. After the numbed nerve relaxes he inserts another long needle 15” then hooks radio frequency to the needle and they burn the nerve. This stops the nerve from sending pain signals to the brain.
Afterwards we usually stop for something to eat then I go home and take a nap.
This procedure stops all my horrific back pain and I can enjoy doing things again. One note you better have great Insurance because this is very expensive. Here’s a 2 minute video that shows what they do . If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

  1. Rene, thank you for the kind words. I’m really looking forward to having this done again and maybe my last if we have to change Insurance Companies . I forgot too add that it doesn’t hurt and you will go home with bandaids over a shot.

  2. Hi Kizmazz, thank you for sharing this with us. I'm glad to hear that this procedure helps you so much with the pain. I’m sure that this is valuable information to many of us. How are you feeling today? Wishing you all the best. - René (community advocate).

    1. i want to apologize to everyone in this group for my post. I’ve been thinking and it almost sounds like I was bragging but I’m really wasn’t . After looking at the post I certainly could have phrased it differently. I was just excited since I’ve been waiting for many months to get this done. My Pain Management Dr. is the one that does it and not my Rheumatologist.
