I am due to start Rinvoq this weekend, I have been on biologics for 12 years, but I’ve had a 2 year break and now I’m really anxious again about side effects, I read some and they are so scary, I’m not sure what to do

Hi Nicky I don’t even know, I think it it starts with a Hum,I really don’t want to know. Have read all the horror stories of the side effects, I know that people young people it effects different not as bad but at my age starting a very powerful drug is terrifying.
I spoke to the consultant eventually but she wasn’t very reassuring.
Bless you, how do you feel?
Yes maybe it’s the first step but my head says I don’t want to do that first step, but I know I have too.
How long have you been on them?
I didn’t want a steroid shot but have had three know but they have been ok no side effects, I had two last year and one in late January but it’s wearing off, they don’t like giving me those as said it’s not good for your system but this is a million times worse with two pages of horrific side effects.
Right now I am thank you, but mentally I am not as waiting for the letter to come.

Hi Jan,
So happy you to hear from you again. I totally understand what you are feeling. You have to do what is best for you and how you feel.
I was diagnosed in 2021. It was a struggle as any medication I was trying I was prone to getting side effects. I have been on 4 biologics up to now. Cosentyx is my fourth one and the longest one I been on. It's going now a year and 7 months. It's helped me slowly get out of bed and be able to move more.
Hope you are having a better day today. Would love to hear how your doing?

Hi Jan,
What biologics are you starting off on ? Is it your first time ? I felt the same way starting on biologics. Even now I get like that every time it comes to a new medication being introduced. But once you take that first step, it start to get less and less scary. I keep reminding myself maybe trying this med will be helpful.
Hope your doing well.

Hi @Manda36
I know how scary it can be trying a new medication. I think it's normal to feel like that as we don't know what to expect. I get the same way every time I need to try something different. But I know if I don't, I won't know if that medication might be the one that can help me find a better quality of life. I recently started on Ozempic and I was so afraid reading all the side effects. But i told myself just to start and see how it goes. I am always able to stop if I see it won't work with me and my body. One day at a time. I hope Rinvoq will go all well. Sending you positive vibes your way!!!
