Biologics

I switched from the biologic (Cosentyx) that had been working for a while, to a biologic that was approved for use during pregnancy. Well turns out another baby is just not in the cards.
I switched back to Cosentyx but had my yearly X-rays. Found new damage in a couple of spots and my C Reactive protein was high and my pain levels have been higher.

I guess the question is... Has anyone come off a biologic that has worked, then started taking it again? Does it work the second time around? Or did I just mess everything up and it won't work for me anymore?

  1. Thank you! I was off of it for a year, so that is where my concern is. But hopefully it starts to work again. I would be devastated if it didn't. I've already been through embrel, humira and cimzia. Not sure what else would help if my levels don't go down.

    1. thanks for the kind reply. I wanted to stop by and drop off a link to an article that has information on other biological medications, as there are quite a few Hope it's helpful. Rebecca (team member)

    2. Hi ,
I just wanted to jump in here and share an article that includes one of our patient leader's experiences after going off a biologic due to surgery: https://axialspondyloarthritis.net/living/hysterectomy
I wish you all the best and hope you will keep us updated.

  2. hello - you've brought up a great topic here in the community. I've stopped my current biological medication for surgery, where I restarted it 3 months later and it had the same effect and helped quite a bit. I was relieved to get back on it and find it still helped. My worst fear is this as well as having a biological stop helping after being on it for a while. I am sure others will log in and offer up their experience. I've heard some say returning to it had become ineffective and heard others state it continues to work great for their pain and debility of spondyloarthritis. As we are all different I believe we have different experiences with biological medications as well. I do hope that it continues to provide you with relief. I'll follow up in a few days to see if anyone has commented. Wishing only the best of health and well-being. Rebecca (team member)
