I recently started biologic injections (Cosentyx) to help manage my axSpA. 2 days after my injection I get flu like symptoms (nausea, headache, brain fog, fatigue). This seems to pass after the 3rd or 4th day. Does anyone else experience this or have helpful tips to help mitigate the side effects?

My rheumatologist tried MTX and several TNFi meds to tame my my evil eye inflammation, but with little success. Then came Cosyntex, which caused rashes and nasal breathing problems. That’s when I switched to Rituxan. The rashes and nasal cleared… but

I was on Inflectra for several years after changing from Remicade. I did alright except the day of infusion I would have a huge wave of exhaustion and also headaches. I live in a small town & thought I could shop at some stores where my infusion suite is after but nope. I had a reaction my last 2 infusions so I’m waiting to see what Medicare covers before trying a new med. Good luck Emme1. I think it’s a risk vs reward scenario in my mind.

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going today.
It probably goes without saying that while biologics have proven to be highly effective, they do come with some side effects including upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections (just to name a few).
As Rebecca mentioned, we have heard from others in the community who have mentioned flu-like symptoms after taking biologics. We always recommend sharing any new or changing symptoms with your healthcare provider.
In addition, there is no "one-size fits all" when it comes to biologics, many in this community have gone through more than one to find the right "fit".
Wishing you all the best, Doreen (Team Member)
