Headaches

Since going off Humira 3 years ago I’ve been getting headaches at night that seem to be referred from chronic upper thoracic spine and neck pain. Headaches are worst after any exercise using upper back muscles such as pushups, flies, pull-ups and even yoga. They start one or two nights after exercise about 4 hours after going to bed. So weird, painful and frustrating.
I noticed no other ASers listing headaches as a symptom.
All the best,
John

  1. - Hi John. So sorry you are having headaches. Exercise and muscle use can aggravate and inflame the muscles causing this pain. I have continuous headaches and vestibular migraines. I also get different types of headaches - sinus, tension, medication overuse headaches, and stress-induced headaches. Any type of exercise brings on a headache. I've had 4 cervical spine surgeries and the nerves and muscles in my neck are a tangled web of strain for me. the inflammation caused by AS in my spine wreaks havoc on me - seems I always have some level of pain and ache in my head, at all hours of the day. I have to be very careful not to irritate or aggravate my body. Have you seen a specialist for these headaches? Here's a link to other articles on our site that mention having them and their effect. https://axialspondyloarthritis.net/search?s=headaches Wishing you relief. All the best - Rebecca (team member)

    1. Hi John, I 100% agree with you, headaches are definitely a symptom! Just curious if you suffer with muscle spasms? I get muscle spasms in my upper back / shoulders / neck and feel like this is the reason for my headaches. Do you find anything relieves the pain?
