How Does the Changing Weather Impact Your AS/AxSpA?

How does the changing weather impact your AS/AxSpA?

  1. I cannot take being in the heat now I am trying to stay in the shady or in doors

    1. Same thing happened to me about 5 years ago. Went to the zoo with family; it was a very hot day but I thought I wasn’t going to make it back to the car. Now in any weather over 70s I’m miserable. Like author, my favorite season has now confined me.

      1. A few years ago, I went to Costa Rica, stayed in a beach town on the Pacific side. When I say it was humid, I mean I felt like I was trapped in a steaming sauna. It was hard to breathe at times, and I ended up staying inside with the AC.

        1. I was able to get out for the first few days, went to the beach, went shopping, etc. But I was unable to go on the hikes and visit the wildlife reserves. As time went on, I couldn't tolerate being outside. My next visit will be to the mountain area, the coastline is just too hot and humid for me. Thanks for asking!

        2. ,
I'm glad you were still able to shop, hike and visit the wildlife reserves. I understand it's a beautiful place to visit!
I'm sure the mountain area will be as beautiful (and enjoyable) yet more comfortable for you.

      2. Unable to cool my body down after moderate exercise, like golfing or hiking.

        1. I ended up moving away from the arid climate of the Okanagan Valley in BC. I would use an umbrella, neck cooler, and hydrate at least 3-5 L of low sugar electrolyte drinks. Taking magnesium supplements helped with leg cramps at night and ensuring I was avoiding peak times of the day for activity and seeking shade and using sunscreen. The worst was sunscreen and sweat running into your eyes…a whole different kind of sun exposure burn!

        2. Ugh, the sunscreen-in-the-eyes struggle is so real—hopefully that doesn’t happen to you too often! You've clearly put a ton of thought into managing the heat: staying hydrated, using electrolytes, timing your activities, and even using a neck cooler. You really tackled it from every angle. It definitely sounds like moving away from that arid climate was the right choice for your well-being. I hope you're settling in comfortably and already feeling the benefits of a gentler environment.
