Medication experiences

I was wondering what medication people are on that has helped with pain and stiffness? I have been given a choice of three types, the Rinvoq is cheaper and more convenient but also has more risks than the injection option. Has anyone had serious side affects?

  1. Regretfully, delayed allergies to drugs are all too common... And utterly unpredictable! Often switching to a similar, even related drug solves the problem, also on an unpredictable "trial & error" basis. It has happened to me more than a few times.

    1. Sorry to hear you've gone through some tough times managing spondyloarthritis. It sure is a gamble - using a new medication and hoping for the best. While it can be challenging, finding the right medication regimen tailored to your needs is essential for managing conditions like ankylosing spondylitis. Thanks for joining the conversation and offering up your experience. All the best. Rebecca (team member)

I just wanted to check in and see if you have made any decisions on treatment options yet.
I thought I'd share this article that discusses Rinvoq (and others) in case you are still looking for more information:

    1. Hey ,

It's important to remember that everyone's body reacts differently to medications in terms of effectiveness and side effects, so it is a little hard to make too many comparisons between person to person.

Personally, I am on Etanercept which is a biosimilar of Enbrel. It was the first medication that I tried and luckily it turned out to work really well for me and has really helped me get a lot of my life back by reducing my pain and stiffness massively.

I don't think that it has ever really given me any bad side effects thankfully too. The only one I can think of is how other sicknesses hit me harder and take longer to go away - but sadly that is the case with all immunosuppressive medications!

I hope that you find a medication that works well for you soon! Are you any closer to making a decision on which one you want to go with?

      Wishing you all the best,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with our community. Pain management is a topic that resonates with many who are navigating spondyloarthritis. It's natural to feel apprehensive about the medication options available for managing ankylosing spondylitis (AS), particularly when considering the potential side effects.

Assuming you've had thorough discussions about these concerns with your healthcare provider, it appears that Rinvoq has been recommended as the best medication to address your individual needs and health profile.

While awaiting firsthand experiences from others in the community regarding this biologic, here's a link to an article that may provide valuable insights: While I haven't personally used Rinvoq, I have found relief with Xeljanz, which is also a JAK inhibitor. I hope others will share their experiences soon.

        With warm regards,
