Stomach ulcers anyone??

Hi everyone!

Was curious to see if anyone in the community has ever dealt with stomach ulcers before? I was admitted to the hospital 4 days ago for one, but I'm not an NSAID user. H-pylori could be the cause, but now I'm wondering if there's some inflammatory issue happening here. Sort of like how AS goes hand in hand with Crohn's and colitis sometimes.

  1. I can totally relate. Since my issues have now gone beyond my upper GI into my lower, I too have been on what seems like every stomach medication that exists. I also have found pantoprazole to be the most effective and now I am also on Bentyl for lower GI pain. The trial and error of chronic illness seems to be never ending! I hope you are well and that you are able to keep your GI issues at bay!

    1. , no not really much for ulcers will come and go as they please due to NSAIDs and been on about every gastro-resistant tablet going Lansoprazole, Omeprazole, Rabeprazole, Esomeprazole. Finally settled on Pantoprazole working great for now for my GERD cause have a severe case of it, if don't take meds for it is there constantly not good. I really shouldn't be on them cause have liver problems but need to take them if didn't would have no insides left from all acid lol.

      1. Think this just a downfall with meds hun, I have really bad GERD and a hernia from it plus with ulcers 😔

        1. ugh I'm so sorry you have to experience all of this too. I definitely have wondered if the meds were a contributing factor. It's so hard to tell where these things come from and/or why they are happening! Have you found anything that gives you relief from these issues? Also, thank you so much for sharing your experience with me!

      2. Hi Katie,
I'm new to the forum, but just found your post.
I was diagnosed with AS around 6 years ago and have been through plenty of different meds to help. When I was first diagnosed with AS, I was getting severe mouth ulcers - up to 20 at once, all inside my mouth and down my throat which was seriously painful. I was put in steroids which would get rid of them within days. After a while a started getting really bad ulcers in the anus which made it extremely painful to even sit down or walk. This lead to a camera inspection either end to see how bad things had got. I was diagnosed with Chron's colitis which affects the anus/ colon. There were signs of ulcers throughout my digestive tract but treatment with Azothiaprine and Simponi for the AS have really helped.
I have found that cutting out sugar, caffeine, dairy and bread have also made me feel so much better.
If you can get a consultation within a gastrointestinal expert then I would definitely recommend it.
        Hope this helps!

        1. Thank you so much for responding to this post! So, I actually had an upper endoscopy done on December 21st and there is NO ulcer. My doctor and I were both floored based on my symptoms and how sick I have been for over a month. I was, however, completely eaten up with inflammation in my stomach. I have a long family history of ulcerative colitis and chrons which now has me thinking it may be chrons after all since it can impact the entire gastrointestinal tract. I started having lower GI issues last May but couldn't get a doctor to perform a colonoscopy. Coincidentally enough, right before my endoscopy was performed, I started experiencing blood in my stool and this past week it went to a whole other level of extreme as far as the amount of blood is concerned. I'm hoping my GI will want to go ahead and do a colonoscopy soon and maybe get this mess figured out. I also cannot have bread, dairy, or anything fattening or fried. I have figured this out in the last 2 weeks and I'm feeling much better in my upper abdominal area. Again, thank you for responding. This information is all very helpful!
