To Flare or Not to Flare

I have been wondering whether I am the ONLY one here who doesn't have "flares" at all..

Originally as a psoriatic patient from 1986, things shifted to my back from about 20 years ago.

In all these years, I have never had a "flare". The psoriasis was a full time thang, and my back problems have been too - although getting worse with time, of course.

Never had any periods of "remission", so am wondering.....

Am I the only one?

  1. I had symptoms in my teens but not diagnosed until MRI showed chronic damage at 60. Flares last month's and months with odd weeks of some respite. Refuse to give in to it!

    1. Hey Boris, I have had AS since my late teens (I am 68 now) My spine, sacroiliac joints, and hips are fused. I am having a hip replacement next week. Other than that,I have lived a perfectly normal life with obvious pain but manageable.Since my mid thirties, I don’t have flareups, I never feel fatigued, which most AS people experience. I don’t take any medication, not even aspirin. My point is, we all experience different symptoms of this disease, there are many. Exercise, walking, push-ups, and stretching have been the key for me. Good luck!

        1. Hi Boris. You’re describing how I was before trying a biologic. Are you being treated adequately? I can’t imagine living with my untreated AS for that long. My sympathies to you!

          1. Hi Jane. Your comment jogged my memory, that as someone who suffered from Psoriasis for 25 years, I never had flare-ups with that either. It was just constant. So maybe there's something in me that just reacts that way. I'll have to ask my rhumo when I see her next in a few months... Just my luck, i'll probably be used as a "test case" as I was when my heart exploded having been Infected with Infective Endocarditis - another complex story with life-changing consequences!!
