A.S. progression

I've been living with A.S. since 1996. In the last year it has progressed quicker than previous years. Fortunately surgery has been an option to help but it seems I have one part "fixed" and another rears it's ugly head. I can't find a rheumatologist in my area so I'm with a pain management Dr who has no awareness of what this disease is. The pain is not under control and I don't want increased meds. I ice, heat, Salonpas gel and tylenol Can someone tell me what helps ease their pain?

  1. I appreciate your reply. I lived in a rural area for years so treatment options were minimal. Just pain medications. Not treating the disease I haven't seen a rheumatologist since 2001 . I'm not familiar with current medications. is a biologic?

    1. Hi ,
I'm sorry you are having a difficult time finding some relief. I thought I'd share this article that offers some suggestions for alternative treatments: https://ankylosingspondylitis.net/alternative-therapies
In the meantime, I'm sending positive thoughts your way for some much-needed relief.

  2. Unfortunately, since we are not doctors we will not be able to answer that question. Actually, you likely do not want us to answer medical questions since we likely would get it wrong.

You have not said which medication you are using. But I hope your doctor might be able to help. I am not certain where you live however, I hope the full range of medications for AS is available. Including the use of biologic medications. If not it might be well worth it to seek out a doctor who understands and can prescribe such medications........................... rick (moderator)
