SACROILIAC PAIN OR SACRUM INJURY?? MEANTIME HELP !!

hOPE YOU ARE ALL COPING WELL WITH THIS CONDITION. Two months ago I had a fall on my bottom as I was hit by a motorcycle, at first didnt think much of it as i had tender bruises and scratches around my sacrum, but three weeks ago my sacrum which was only bruised starting hurting really weird, numb pain that radiates to my buttocks, shooting pain towards hips but its very tender to the touch as if I had just had the fall. See, i had never had this type of pan s in the begginig i thought its finally the most common symptom of AS (i always have really bad pain in ribs and gut) but never in my sacrum, or never realy bad like now. My feet feel a bit tingly and even walking is becoming painful....i guess i have to get it checked if its nothing mechanical i guess this accident awoken my sacroiliac inflammation and its new for me and im scared and sad, i dot take medicine for my AS only HEEL products and swimming 4days weekly as my reumathologist thinks I can deal with it. I am HLAB 27 negative and my CRP is rarely high as well as my ESR. My inflammation is obvious on Sacroiliac joint MRI so when in flare I take NSAIDS but since my gut started getting involved I dont take them. Im due an appointment with my doctor but in the meantime would you give me a hand on do-s and not to do-s with the sacroiliac pain. heat? cold? mix? rest? activity?
i would love any kind of advice.
lovely weekend everyone

  1. Yesss! I was looking at one (belt) just the other day, I do have the handheld massager and love it, i use it on my hips innerthigs and low back and buttocks, i know about the spine! so tender, but i do have a massage every now and then with a masseus, he is a very good professional and knows exactly my trigger points, I guess we both know what type of pain -we are talking about as you and me have tried the same aids. Are you on medication? I was given last week a one month course of 1.200mg Ibuprofen a day. But I do hesitate a lot as my AS has affected my bowel in many senses, I became totally lactose intolerant and my gastro thinks I have some sort of gut inflamation nothing diagnosed thanks God.
I hope you feel better than the days you talked about it in the message.
    Thank you so much again,
Ps , yes! I got run over by a motorcycle on late Jan this year, I fel on my back, I guess more my tailbone and although I was fine got up and walk, i startes with this new pain sympthom 2 months after. I live 20 min away from the most relieveng thermal waters in the area, so I take a trip to soak myself in it (40 celsius) two or three times a week. I m lucky in that sense though!

    1. You had a car accident? I was reading about how other injuries can cause AS to progress. Something to consider.

I saw this happen when I had an injury to my knee that took a year to heal back in 2020. Since then I’ve had problems with both knees. Then sprinkle a lot of stress on top in 2021 and things started getting out of control with what I was seeing in my body. I was having a lot of sciatica and pain in my hips then things got scary when I couldn’t walk. Then the swelling in my shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers and big toes. I guess I can now add the back of my heels to the list 🙃

Anyhow your accident just might be one of the connecting puzzle pieces.

A few other things that I thought of that has helped me is a lot of pure essential oils for pain and inflammation. Sometimes it’s what I need to dull the pain long enough so I can sleep. Also I mentioned this belt in another post that I wear most days to compress my hips, give me more stability when walking and helps my sciaticas on an average pain day. If my hips start to feel worse then I know I’ve worn it too long for the day.
I also have a handheld massager that helps me in between massages. Just make sure whoever is massaging your back stays away from your spine 😉

      1. hello there!! and thank you so much for your lovely message, I am feeling a bit better now, yes!! I love lots of Vit D and the heat'ice therapy, actually this is the first time in 7 years with my diagnosis that I feel like I needed some ice, I am a heat lover but those tendons or whatever it is down there were killing me, I had an MRI to see if the accident had something to do but nope...its the mere inflamation from my SI joints, I guess it is good news although not so good for me as I had never had them painful, my AS was very bad on my ribs not there.
I am going to look out for EPSON salts, ive heard them to be very beneficial. Im so happy I had a meesage from someone giving me advice (thank youuu) you dont know how much it means to me, hope you are going to remission or its not too bad for you and wish you a lovely weekend,
        P

        1. ouch ouch ouch! It’s so painful! So sorry for your pain 😕. When my sacrum and sciaticas flare, I do my stretches in a hot shower. Also mix heat and ice if your skin can tolerate it. My skin typically can’t tolerate ice. If you sit, lay down or stand too long then it flares. If you can walk a little bit outside (Vitamin D) then I find that it’s good. Plus getting out of the house and letting the sun shine on you. I would also try epsom salt bath and soak. I use pure essential oils and massage on the painful spots.

Hope this helps! Blessings to you 🤗
