Stopping Humira ??

Hello I have been on Humira and it has been almost constant UTIs and other issues. Now on my last blood work my liver tests are elevated. So I have been doing my injections every 3 and 1/2 to 4 weeks now because I always have an infection and I can't do it regularly. At this point I don't consider it helping if I'm sick all the time. Does anyone else relate to this or have these issues?

  1. Hi ,
I just wanted to add (like the others have mentioned), that it's important to discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider. In addition, we recommend talking with your healthcare team before adding any new supplements/treatment.
Sending you all my best, Doreen (Team Member)

    1. Unless the Humira is solving all your AS symptoms, it might be time to switch to a different biologic. Humira didn't help me at all. Cosentyx has helped a great deal. You might want to take a break from the Humira, get the infections under control, and then try a different biologic. Just a thought...

Just for fun, you might want to take L-Glutamine (powder you dissolve in liquid) daily to see if that helps your labs. It won't hurt to try it, no side effects, no taste. I have the MTHFR Mutation (genetic) which causes your body to have trouble removing toxins (liver & kidneys), along with requiring Methylcobalamin instead of normal B-12. Lots of people have this mutation, but they don't test for it.

      Hope you get better...

      1. Hi

Sorry to hear Humira has not been helping you. I have been on Humira as well, and had to get off as it was making me feel worse. I know everyone is different when trying these medication. This is all about trial and error. I would reach out to your doctor and let him know how you are feeling about Humira. Is this your first biologic? Sometimes it takes time to find the right one. I am on my fourth one Cosentyx and it's my longest one I been on.

I hope you can find some relief.

        Sending you warm hugs,

        1. Hi - I wanted to stop by and acknowledge your comment. I am certainly hoping others will chime in on this topic while using Humira. You've found the right community to post and provide you with support. I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with Humira and the side effects you've been experiencing. It's not uncommon for individuals with spondyloarthritis to have various reactions to biological medications, and the frequency of infections can be concerning. Numerous people within the spondyloarthritis community have faced similar issues, and sharing experiences with others who can relate can be incredibly valuable.

Have you considered discussing alternative treatment options with your doctor, as there are different biologics available, and they might recommend a different one that is more suitable for you?

Your well-being is of utmost importance, and finding a treatment plan that works best for you, while minimizing side effects, is a crucial part of managing spondyloarthritis. Will wait and watch to see some responses. Until then, I wanted to leave this link that guides you to articles regarding Humira. https://axialspondyloarthritis.net/search?s=humira With warm respect - Rebecca (community moderator)
