Are you feeling fatigued? How do you manage it?

Unfortunately, fatigue is a part of living with AS. Learning ways to manage your fatigue can be a game-changer and help you live a happier, more rested life.

  1. I have a lot of fatigue and agree it's the worst part. Besides fibro and spondylitis I am also a little anemic with IBS. I manage by taking a nap if I can, drinking a little 5 Hour Energy when needed, and allowing myself downtime when I'm just done

    1. hi, I don’t think it’s part of the IBS. Sorry, worded that badly. I’ve been anemic since late teens, early 20’s. Nobody ever wants to do anything about it. Doc said it’s not iron deficiency but I don’t know how they know that. Nobody’s run blood to assess my iron. I did read about anemia somewhere on this forum some time ago but haven’t ran it by the doctor. I felt like ‘why bother’. And thought she should have know about that herself. I feel like she’s given up on helping my pain. Thanks for the response and info. I appreciate it.

    2. hang in there and keep us posted. We care. Please don't let the doctors gaslight you (unfortunately it happens way too often). Warmly, Kathy (Team member)

  2. Yes. Had an early rising appt. For a CT scan, it was chilly, the table hard, and the long ride exhausting. Got home, bed and slept 4 hours, so tired still. Went BK. To bed @ 9PM slept till 8:30 AM. Fatigued, but up, It is a battle, but I fight.

    1. That sounds exhausting. Fatigue like that can be so hard to shake, but it’s inspiring that you keep pushing through. You’ve got such a strong spirit! -Latoya (Team Member)

  3. Not well

    1. I'm sorry to hear your not feeling well. I hope you’re able to get some real rest and give your body the time it needs to recover. Be gentle with yourself right now. All the best, Latoya (Team Member)

  4. The only thing that helps is prednisone. I realize it’s a double edged sword; has lots of side effects. However if I can stay on a low dose (5 mg) it really seems to help. Dr wants to try a new biologic. We’ll see…

    1. Totally understand how frustrating it is when the promises of a treatment don't balance well with the side effects. All the best, Kathy (Team member)

    2. Hi. I agree with you. If I could just take prednisone I doubt if I would need anything else, but my rheumatologist won’t give them to me, even for flares because I have osteoporosis. What is there to do?
