Are you feeling fatigued? How do you manage it?

Unfortunately, fatigue is a part of living with AS. Learning ways to manage your fatigue can be a game-changer and help you live a happier, more rested life.

  1. Yes, I feel fatigued often. At times I exercise which will help for a time, but I also will sit in a cozy chair with a blanket and take a nap.

    1. All great ways to keep moving and get a bit of well-needed relief. Fatigue can be so draining. Finding balance is important. Thanks for sharing what works for you. WIshing you well in the new year. Rebecca (community moderator)

  2. It is awfully difficult to get through this. Today I did four loads of laundry and after each one I had to take a break. It is so frustrating
and I don’t sleep at night because I can never get comfortable

Four loads of laundry in addition to lack of sleep is beyond frustrating...it's exhausting to the next level. Sending tons of positive thoughts for some much-needed rest.

    2. Oh boy do I understand. Over the holidays I have had upper body pain associated with tasks such as laundry, cooking, and cleaning up around the house.
It is challenging and frustrating. The need for breaks and difficulty finding comfort can undoubtedly take a toll on your well-being. I found it essential to acknowledge the effort I put into everyday activities despite the challenges of spondyloarthritis. Stepping back and reflecting on tasks undertaken helps me recognize I am getting things done, just differently than others or from how I used to accomplish things. It's also crucial to prioritize self-care. Some days I need to put those tasks to the side and tend to my body and mind. I hope you can rest a bit between tasks and have productive days. Also, lack of sleep really puts a damper on what you can accomplish throughout the day - hoping you can get some nightly rest ... how are you doing this week? Warmly - Rebecca (community moderator)

  3. I have figured out that my fatigue is exacerbated by my pain. Fighting pain is exhausting. I do what I can to not let my pain get ahead of me and I feel better in general.

  4. Brain fog from fatigue is bad for me. Sometimes I just stop and blank for what seems like ages.😊

    1. - thanks for engaging with me here in the community. I have a very hard time with bitter cold and extreme humidity - I understand. I am in Arizona which ... is hot but not humid so I am not affected by the humidity too much. The cold (winter) gets me in the morning, but then the day heats up and I feel better. Here's a great article that has some handy tips, especially over the holidays. https://creakyjoints.org/lifestyle/stress-fighting-tips-holidays-chronic-illness/ Wishing you the best of the season.
