Stretching helps to loosen stiff muscles and joins and may even help ease some pain from AxSpA. What stretches or poses have helped you feel better? Share a photo with the community!

  1. Hey Guys,

I don't have a photo but I did upload a video of my daily stretch routine that has helped me improve my pain and stiffness levels enormously!

Here is a link to that video in case it can be of any use to anyone out there!

    Best wishes,

    1. 1. Childs pose followed by cobra. 2.Standing up bending at waist placing hands behind head. Applying NO pressure but allowing gravity traction. 3. Cat/cow

      1. gosh you've been through a lot before arriving at your diagnosis, I'm so sorry to hear about those difficult and pain filled years.

Somehow your funny bone is still intact.. I think that's something to be truly proud of! I love a good laugh and it's often gotten me through the bad times, it sounds like you might have a similar approach 😀

(I could make some Incontinentia reference here but it would probably end badly so I won't go there.. haha!)

I'm also on the yoga and smoothie bandwagon these days alongside my medical treatment approach, more power to you for trying everything you can to stay well! I think balance is key in staying on top of all this as best we can.

Very valid points on the pain scale too, I often hear it discussed how ineffective the rating system can be.

I really appreciated the article below and thought you might find it interesting too. It definitely added to my understanding of pain and helped me feel less alone in my experience.

Wishing you all the best Jason, great to get to know you!

    2. Child's Pose - When my lower back is in so much pain, I tend to get into Child's pose to relieve the pressure. I sit like this for 5 - 10 mins and it relieves the pain that radiates to my iliac crest/pelvis and to my mid-back.

Cobra Pose -sitting at my computer hunched over while working does me in. This pose, beginning from lying flat on my stomach to then pushing with my arms to arch my chest, shoulders, and neck creates just the release I need by stretching those overworked upper body muscles.

Cat Pose - This helps me stretch and mobilize stiff muscles throughout my neck, back and spine while engaging my hamstrings and core muscles.

I find I stand up after performing these poses and I have better balance, less pain, and a little bit more energy.
