Diagnosis

I have an elevated ANA and was referred to a rheumatologist who discovered I am HLA B27 positive. After taking X rays she said I have bony spurs on my spine and arthritis but no evidence of AS but she can’t rule it out. I’m really confused. I don’t want to have AS but I want to know if I do. She said if my symptoms worsen I can get an MRI.

I’ve had a lot of problems with chest wall pain but Celebrex seems to be helping. I have had back pain since I was a teen. I’m now 49. I’ve always thought the back pain was due to a car accident I was in. This is the first I’m learning of arthritis. My pain worsens with activity like cleaning. Does this sound like AS?

  1. - welcome. You've found the right place to help you find answers. Spondyloarthritis is very confusing. Terribly sorry to hear you are going through difficult times with pain. And feeling lost about possibly having a chronic illness such as axial spondyloarthritis or inflammatory arthritis.

I was lost when I first heard the term. I had to have my doctor write it down. It took me a lot of searching and reading to become familiar with it, and how to help advocate for myself and educate those near and dear to me. Here are some links that may help you understand the basics of this disease.
