Anklosing Spondylitis diagnosis

I have suffered from back pain for years. About 10 years ago I was sent to a Rheumatologist. Due to my symptoms and the fact I do have the AS gene, I was diagnosed with AS. I was about 60 at that time. No imaging was done. I was prescribed Meloxicam and Sulfasalazine. A couple of years ago, I was started on infusions every 8 weeks at a cost of about $38,000. every 8 weeks. Thank goodness for health insurance. Really can’t tell any difference in pain, however.

About a month ago, lower back pain became quite severe when standing for over 5 minutes or walking for a few minutes. Finally went to see my general practitioner to complain more about this pain. I was sent to get X-ray of lumbar. When results came back, discovered I have severe degenerative spinal disease along with adult scoliotic curvature centered at the L3. Was then sent for MRI. Discovered I have 5 herniated disc. Now waiting for appointment with the Neurosurgeon.

So, I am upset that the Rheumatologist never took me seriously enough to order an MRI or other testing. He would always just tell me it was the arthritis in my back causing me discomfort. I am also upset with myself for trusting him for so long.
