Does this sound like AS

Hi all sorry this is a bit long.
I have psoriatic arthritis and am on methotrexate. DX in 2016. For the past couple of years I have been getting a lot of buttock pain and pain down sides of legs into my feet. I have pain in the back of my pelvic bones. I still exercise and play some sport and am fine during it but shortly afterwards I get cramping heavy pain in lower abdomen and lower back, similar to a bad period pain.
I played football on Monday of this week and the pain started the following day, buttock, leg and lower back pain. It was very bad yesterday in the right buttock and right leg. Today is the left buttock and leg. Pain is quite intense. Gets much worse sitting or resting, the only relief I had yesterday was when I went for a walk. I have to keep moving all the time. Painkillers get rid of the pain.
All the glute muscles and tendons are painful to touch.
This is not the same as muscle soreness from exercising.
I have had x rays, blood test and MRIs and all have come back normal except some adductor tendinopathy which they said didnt explain the pain. I am in an arthritis outpatient programme this week and the mentioned axial spondylarthritis and said it takes about 8 years to be diagnosed!
I have sore points all over my body some days which they think is enthesitis. I also get pain at bottom of my ribs.
I am at my wits end with it.
Thank you

  1. Hi ! Please don’t apologize for the long post! It’s understandable to feel frustrated when you’re dealing with so much pain and still don’t have clear answers. So we really appreciate you sharing what you've been going through with us. I'm so sorry you are experiencing so much pain, especially after doing things that bring you joy. I'm glad the painkillers are helping somewhat, but I know this is still a frustrating thing to deal with after being active. We have a couple of articles on AxialSpondyloarthritis.net that may be helpful as you learn more about it: How Is Axial Spondyloarthritis Diagnosed? (https://axialspondyloarthritis.net/diagnosis) explains why getting a diagnosis can take time, even after multiple tests. Unfortunately, the long road to an axSpA diagnosis is something many people experience, which makes it even more frustrating when you’re dealing with ongoing pain. I truly hope you start getting some answers soon. Have they talked with you about what the next steps might be? -Latoya (Team Member)
