Medical alert bracelets

I bought one for myself recently because my R. SI joint is ⅔ fused and my L. is starting now too. I also have disc degeneration at L4-5 which is starting to fuse. (I start Simponi on June 3rd.) The reason I bought the med alert bracelet is because if I get into an accident, I feel like emergency responders will need to know I could have broken something fused. This, in my mind, will help them support those areas specifically, which could prevent worse damage.
My husband was upset about the cost (I did get a few accessories with it so it'd be a little prettier) and told me med alert bracelets were only for life-threatening conditions like allergies to medications, diabetes, epilepsy, etc. He believes this is a waste of money and I shouldn't have bought it.
What's done is done, so he can just be grumpy about it. But I'm curious if anyone else has one as well? I thought it was a good idea, but was I just being extra?

  1. Thank you for being part of our community. Others can answer your question about the Emergency Alert bracelet, but your logic seems sound. Also, your post reminded me of this article about how hard it is sometimes to talk about this disease with loved ones. All the best, Kathy (Team member)
