  1. Jaw pain, tingling and numbness in the arms. Subluxation of joints. Both my knee caps, and 2nd, 3rd and 4th toes on both feet, are subluxed due to tendons stiffening. That breathing problems can be associated with AS, I went undiagnosed for 25yr, as well as fused SI and rib joints, I was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis due to years of uncontrolled inflammation. I worked as a trauma nurse, and my back pains were always blamed on my career.

    1. I worked as an orthopaedic nurse, as ward sister, so lots of manual lifting. When things became challenging, my colleagues would step in and do the jobs that got you in difficult positions, or that they deemed too heavy for me, I wouldn’t have lasted as long, without their support. Doing cpr would put me in a flare the next day, always 🤗

    2. I'm glad you had caring colleagues. It's always amazed me how strong nurses are! (Including you - CPR with AS? Wow) All the best, Kathy (Team member)

  2. GI symptoms, especially right before a flare, foot numbness, tingling and pain, thigh pain

    1. Having to slow down and use a walker during flares sounds challenging. But I’m glad you have a few things you can turn to when your symptoms get worse. I hope you’re able to get the rest and relief you need when those symptoms show up. 🧡 Take care, Latoya (Team Member)

    2. They are still researching the connection between AS and gut issues, but there is one, and it impacts many people. You might be interested in this article. All the best, Kathy (Team member)

  3. Inflamed lump in metatarsal area leading to fixed hammer toe

    1. That sounds painful. Foot problems are not uncommon with AS. You aren't alone. How are you doing now? Warmly, kathy (Team member)

  4. Incontinence, cataracts, jaw pain

    1. Thank you for sharing. Yes, there are some strange and surprising symptoms that can come along with AxSpA. How are you coping with them? Warmly, Kathy (Team member)

    2. funny thing about this is that steroids treat the bladder and jaw inflammation but cause the cataracts! It's really not funny though, is it? I'm coping though, thank you for asking!
